Who this guide is for

You may have a clear business idea but feel unsure which accounts, tools and digital processes need to come first. This is especially relevant when you are starting a service business, moving from informal work to an established offer, or preparing to sell online.

The aim is not to buy every tool at once. It is to create a workable path from someone discovering your business to making an enquiry, becoming a customer and receiving what you promised.

1. Define the offer before building the website

Write down who you serve, the problem you help with, what a customer receives and how you intend to charge. Decide whether people need a quote, appointment or direct purchase. Those choices shape the website and the systems behind it.

Separate digital setup from business registration and professional advice. Identify any registration, insurance, licensing or industry questions that need checking with the relevant authority or a qualified adviser; a website does not establish that those requirements have been met.

2. Put the business accounts in the right hands

Plan the domain, business email and the accounts needed to run your service. Where a provider supports it, keep account ownership with the business and give your consultant appropriate delegated access rather than sharing passwords.

Record who pays for each subscription, who can recover the account and what happens if a provider or consultant changes. Domain, hosting, email and payment-provider costs should be considered separately from the setup work.

3. Build the customer journey

Start with the pages and steps customers actually need: a clear offer, accurate pricing or quote guidance, contact details, and relevant purchase or booking information. Choose payment and booking tools according to your business model and the provider's eligibility requirements.

Plan what happens after each action. An enquiry needs an owner, a paid order needs a verified payment and fulfilment process, and an appointment needs confirmed availability. A polished front page cannot replace these working steps.

4. Test and hand over before launch

Walk through the journey as a customer using realistic test information. Check form messages, notifications, booking confirmations and payment outcomes where those features are included. Confirm who will handle failures, refunds and customer questions.

Ask for a handover covering account access, routine updates and support responsibilities. Ongoing management can be agreed separately; it should not be assumed to be included indefinitely.

  • Confirm the offer, audience and first customer journey.
  • List required accounts, third-party fees and account owners.
  • Resolve registration and industry questions with appropriate advisers.
  • Test each agreed customer-facing step before going live.
  • Agree handover and any separate ongoing support in writing.

Where BergMetric can help

Business Launch & Digital Setup brings planning and agreed digital setup into one coordinated project, rather than leaving you to organise disconnected suppliers and tools. It can help establish the website, enquiry handling, payment or booking steps, and operating systems that suit your business.

The potential benefit is a clearer sequence, less duplicated setup and an easier handover. The exact work depends on your business and written quote; registrations, professional advice and third-party approvals are not automatically completed or guaranteed by a digital setup project.

The practical takeaway

Launch the smallest complete customer journey first, with clear ownership, tested steps and a realistic plan for ongoing costs.
